Impressive (for their day) special effects, and an intelligent script that holds up well compared to the likes of contemporary science fiction films like Gattaca.

This is quintessential (and serious approached) sci-fi at its best. Added to the fact that it was made in the very dawn of the stiil-to-be, long-lasting cold war - with nuclear doom and the like glooming over people's heads - and we've surely got a gem of a film here. Extra bonus for the seriouness that Jack Arnold embraces the script - extra bonus for doing that in the sensationalist 50's. Hence my 5-star rating.

Incredibly well done, especially for 1957.
