It's not every day you get to see the new Tati film. And it's one of the most beautiful movies you'll ever see. Ever. It will break your heart and fill it up again and make you feel alive. A Tati story (with even more of a Chaplin influence than usual) with Sylvain Chomet animation and music. I ADORE THIS MOVIE

A very charming, somewhat sad little film about loneliness and companionship. This film is a visual wonder, in a quiet way though. It moves slowly but always with great care and never in a boring way. The main character is a very likeable one and we connect with him immediately and readily follow him on his journey through concert halls and pubs, basement bars and department store windows as he brings his dying magic act to whoever will have him. A splendid cast of secondary characters also populate, the greatest one being a drunken Scotsman who bumps into the magician on more than one occasion and seems to be his biggest fan. The film is a French one, but it could really be in any language as the few lines of dialogue don't need to be translated for us to understand exactly what's going on throughout the film. I haven't seen Sylvain Chomet's Triplet's of Belleville, but after seeing this little marvel I will certainly be checking it out.

Ty Burr stated in regards to The Illusionist, "Watching "The Illusionist'' is like peering through a rippled windowpane onto a past that knows it's disappearing." I couldn't have said it any better myself. I would describe this film as a moving painting; any shot in the movie could be hung up in an art gallery. My favorite part of The Illusionist was of course the ending. I don't believe I've ever seen anything so hauntingly beautiful. Equally as impressive though was the animators representation of Jacques Tati (Mon Oncle, Mr. Hulot's Holiday), an extremely unique individual, whose behavior was sublimely represented through-out the film. The Illusionist is highly intelligent and thoroughly thought provoking. An easy A+

Hand drawn animation has a altogether different feel to it , uncomputerized textures and speed painting like style, it lets you in . The movie is almost without dialouge , but coupled with great sound and old school charm. All in all it accounts to a great viewing experience
