The Great Silence (1968) ???? / ???? Stunningly bleak film of sadistic bounty hunter and mute gunfighter, both with blood on their hands whose paths cross when a widow is involved inside snow-filled Mountains of Utah during a terrible blizzard. Perhaps the greatest spagetti western ever; extremely well-made, almost mesmerizing in its depiction of (rather uncompromising) brutal violence and cruelty, with audacious, unforgettable finale. Ennio Morricone's haunting music is also among his greatest. A superlative piece of Italian filmmaking. If you like movies, even by a small degree, don't miss this.

The Great Silence is the spaghetti Western that stands out. The chill atmosphere of the film was nicely facilitated by the snowy background, a great character who is mute - which is very special. This film is more dramatic than many other Spaghetti Western (maybe except once upon a time in the west). The dark ending is superb - it really thrills us with the bitter reality, and convey the deeper meaning of humanity itself.

I see the emergence of a spaghetti western kick in my near future. This is a great and unusal western with an amazing and surprising ending.

Brilliantly directed, with a classic Spaghetti Western tale, The Great Silence is probably master filmmaker Sergio Corbucci's greatest film. Lots of violent action, great locale's and one of the most brutal, uncompromising endings I've ever seen, this is one of the best Westerns of all time.

*Extremely* dark Italian Western with a unique setting: a snow-covered mountain village. The music is great, the direction is (as always when we're talking about Corbucci) brilliant and the acting is perfect for the roles. Make no mistake, though, this is downbeat and dark, dark dark stuff. Check it out if you're an adventurous movie-goer.
