There is a raw, primitive response to Christ in this film, despite all its community theatre window-dressing. I loved its spirit of a fanfare.

The closest you will get to feeling like you have run a marathon, without running a marathon. Once is enough.

Phelim O'Neill 11 Apr 2012

[McKean] keeps things visually interesting and exciting, overlaying images and using the occasional separately filmed segment.

Patrick Gamble 04 Jan 2019

McKean's film deserves to be watched if only to marvel at the performance of Sheen and the epic scale of the production which gave birth to this misguided collaboration of theatre and cinema.

Not theatre, not a documentary, and not a regular film, but a powerful hybrid.
