It's night on a Paris bridge. A girl leans over Seine River with tears in her eyes and a violent yearning to drown her sorrows. Out of nowhere someone takes an interest in her. He is Gabor, a knife thrower who needs a human target for his show. The girl, Adele, has never been lucky and nowhere else to go. So she follows him. They travel along the northern bank of the Mediterranean to perform.

My favourite movie of all time. Each shot is beautiful, meaningful, heartbreaking and joyous. To put even this much in words is painful. Watch it.

This is my favourite Leconte film, and one of my top ten favourite movies ever. One of the most sensual movies i have ever seen, beautifully filmed(in black and white), and greatly acted. Splendid cinematography and a very suggestive soundtrack, plus one of my favourite actors, Daniel Auteuil and the sexy Vanessa Paradis (she gives a splendid performance, such a shame she stopped acting), their chemistry is almost tangible. Veeery romantic while lacking the hollywoodian cheezyness, with a dash of surreal. I wish Leconte still made films like this, his last ones are rather disappointing, unfortunately. A gem of the French cinema, highly recommended.
