A glorified TV movie that starts with CGI in the games format so looses any kind of realism, so places the situation in the realm of fantasy. Acting, if one can call it that is mediocre at best and deteriorates as it progresses. The script is a bunch of clichés strung together badly allowing no story whatsoever to evolve. The shower scenes are the only worthwhile part. Nibbles: Noodles

Bad movie -- don't waste your time...

I thought overall this was a pretty cool movie. It tries to follow in the footsteps of the classic cyberpunk future movies like Blade Runner and The Matrix, but it just didn't have any truly unique elements to put it toward the top for futuristic movies. The story just kind of sucked. Bai Ling is ultra sexy though as the lethal assassin Michelle who is hired to kill DNA Hackers. Most of the cgi and special effects were rather horrible, but there were some pretty good scenes here and there. The acting for the most part wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. This was actually a comic-book to movie translation which didn't turn out too bad. It is credited as being based on a comic book series called 'The DNA Hacker Chronicles'. So, despite being pretty low-budget, The Gene Generation is worth a weekend rental, i don't know about a purchase, but it's pretty cool. I recommend at least checking it out once.

You take your chances with a Bai Ling vehicle . . . pretty much what I expected; I got so bored 20 minutes in I switched the audio channel over to cast & crew commentary which helped me understand what was going on in each scene a little better . . . the set dresser worked pretty hard & there were some surprisingly ambitious & plentiful f/x shots of the sci-fi cityscape for a no-budget movie . . .

for fans of the industrial music genre, this is a must see. the plot line is decent, and the industrial fashion sense is great, complete with combichrist scenes and logos. if you have no idea what im talking about, not worth watching
