A screwball comedy that could have been screwier, "The English Teacher" is as interesting for its cast as its content.

Ethan Alter 16 May 2013

A strained attempt to translate the comic punch of Alexander Payne's brilliant send-up of high-school politics, Election, into the realm of an even more tension-fraught extracurricular activity: drama club.

As far as romantic comedies go, it's ok. But that's only as far as romantic comedies go.

Lou Lumenick 22 May 2013

Like so many small films carrying the Tribeca Films label, this seriocomic farce has its moments, but fails to live up to the promise of a starry cast headed by Julianne Moore.

The film started off great, especially since it stared Nathan Lane from the movie Mouse Hunt. He's a brilliant actor. The movie seemed like it had the potential of being great but sadly the story plot gets way out of hand, and the director had to throw in unrealistic stupid characters to ruin such a beautiful story. How hard is it to keep all the characters unique, smart and educated, instead of adding these ridiculous kill joys. I don't know....the story got really depressing and disappointed me. The movie was okay, definitely worth checking out at least once, but I doubt I'd watch it again...
