Hongi, a Maori chieftain's teenage son, must avenge his father's murder in order to bring peace and honour to the souls of his loved ones after his tribe is slaughtered through an act of treachery. Vastly outnumbered by a band of villains led by Wirepa, Hongi's only hope is to pass through the feared and forbidden "Dead Lands" and forge an uneasy alliance with a mysterious warrior, a ruthless fighter who has ruled the area for years.

Disregard the "critic" reviews you read here. Most of them don't know what to say other than boosting their own dialogue. This was a decent movie. Acting was satisfactory for the period. Action scenes were dramatized for entertainment but not like so much as the new Bond, Bourne, Taken series would make it. The story is simple but believable. Give it a watch and enjoy.

As a Kiwi (New Zealander) I feel too many people glorify & glamorise anything even slightly successful this nation cooks up - this is a perfect example of that. Sure this movie has its merits but it's way too tedious & 'stretched-out' for me. And as harsh as it sounds, sort of reiterates in some respects why there are no more native Maori living out in the bush in this country. Just sayin'

WOW!!!! One of the very few times I felt like clapping at the end of a movie. Plenty of action, authentic and the sub-titles no problem. Great acting and a very moving story.
