The Current (2014)

Jake loves living in Chicago but when big city violence hits a little too close to home his parents buy a campground in rural Minnesota and move the family there. Jake hates living at the campground until he meets Peter, the boy across the river. The two quickly become best friends and spend a fun-filled summer together on the river. In one of their conversations, Peter shares his Christian faith with Jake. Jake uses his new faith to help a friend through a tragedy.

The project drips with sincerity, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. What doesn't work is the tin-eared dialogue and the utter lack of momentum, both in the script or the direction by Nikita Zubarev.

The trailer is for a different movie of the same name -- I'm commenting on the trailer version of "The Current." It is a horrendously amateur movie I think intended for home-school religious families. If you're that type you will rate it 5 stars, and if you're not that type you will rate it zero stars. So I'm rating it in between.
