Two detectives investigate the murder of a stripper gunned down in the streets of LA. Both fall in love with the sorority girl artist who is the only one who may be able to identify the killer. Joe chalks his partner's recent hostility towards him to racism (Joe is Japanese-American.), but doesn't consider that it may just be old-fashioned jealousy. Blunt writing and directing by Sam Fuller.

Perhaps a minor Fuller, but I think his execution here of race relations is strong, a bit stronger than the more acclaimed yet slightly disjointed Shock Corridor. While Fuller treats similar tensions in House of Bamboo in a more sophisticated manner, here he is on home soil, driving messages home that much more. Perhaps a bit more melodramatic than his other works, I still think this is a strong film that marks his attempts to unite various genres -- i.e., noir, crime, thriller, social and political criticism -- as crucial in late-50s mainstream cinema.

Cute little 60's movie that has a slightly different view of racism then modern movies. Apparently, it's all in your mind....

not my favorite sam fuller film...in fact, it might the worst one of his ive seen. however, in term of noir standards, it is somewhere in the middle. it gets a little tied in melodrama in addition to the suspense. also worth a look if only for the early asian american love story
