An epic film with thousands of extras, but the casting of John Wayne as Genghis Khan is laughable.

This movie is so surreal. A product of the 1950's all-star white cast in "asian" face. Wayne gives it his all and tries playing the Mongol warlord, but the typical plots drives this into bizarro medievil land of pseudo westerns. After while it's like watching an alternate universe Lord of the Rings movie with everyone dressed as Ming The Merciless from Flash Gordon. Watch sober if you dare.

John Wayne WANTED to play Temujin. Bad move. They filmed it in western Utah, where the wind would blow in from the atomic test sites not far away. Worse move. Movie is notorious for both reasons. Both a cinematic and human tragedy that shouldn't have happened.
