Sad, creepy, suspenseful...this movie has a bit of everything and two fine performances from Samantha Eggar and Terence Stamp.

My mother told me about how scary this movie was years ago. Wow was she right!

Creepy and fascinating psychological thriller about a man who becomes obsessed with and kidnaps a beautiful art student. Terence Stamp is brilliant, and he plays the balance between misunderstood loner and dangerous psychopath flawlessly. But that's not to say the talented Samantha Eggar can't keep up. The pacing here is great, too, because between those scenes of heightened tension that will have you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, we also get dialogue-based scenes of captive and captor interacting. It's intriguing to see the twists their relationship takes, wondering all the while if he will give in or if she will. Both of these and more are possibilities in this unsettling, unpredictable drama-thriller.

Just saw this flick last week and was blown away by a couple of aspects...This movie is really a foreshadowing of what modern horror movies will become and, unfortunately ,what we are seeing in the news these days....But this works on a much tamer level and not so grisly, though just as shocking. Terrance Stamp kidnaps this girl he has his eye on and keeps her in a cellar, furnished with all the luxuries of home, in hopes that she will fall in love with him....Itâ??s a interesting concept because he really starts out very polite and curtious to her....This movie is not about rape or torture but about acceptance. This is all he wants from her...is to be loved and excepted. Of course ,his twisted and crazed mind can't understand that what he has done is wrong or why she would not love him........ I really have to think that when this movie was released in 65, it must have caused some controversy due to the subject matter.....So grab the kids, put then in the cellar, and enjoy Zods early days....
