The first Marx Brothers movie is not as polished and well crafted as their later work, but to see Margaret Dumont in such embarassing situations always kills me to see more. It still has a lot of good sight gags and crazy situations, but apparently the Brothers were so horrified with the final cut of the movie, they wanted to shelve it. Good thing they didn't.

This film is very watchable, but it is distracted by arbitrary dance sequences and singing; however, the potential of the Marx Brothers' is evident: all they needed was a little fine tuning.

This is their first talkie. So, it's still mired in producers not knowing what to do with them. There's a lot of subplot and random songs and dance numbers that don't include the Marx Brothers-which is just a misunderstanding that you've got to just give these guys the whole movie to chew up. But, still, there's some incredible moments. The Why A Duck routine between Chico and Groucho is in this one.
