Francois Begaudeau's amazing autobiographical novel does a fantastic job to restrict the plot to the classroom and not diverting to any useless sub-plots..... Still the movies is captivating and a wonderful wonderful adaptation of his autobiographical novel.... The emotional turmoil of trying to do the right thing without getting in the line of fire was totally fantastic... And the climax is the high point where the tragedy which many ignore going on throughout the movie comes out in almost a comic manner... The movie isnt an ounce unreal....

Whoever thinks this is Dangerous Minds in French is out of his fuckin mind. And whoever thinks these students are scary and unrealistic... is lucky to have been in such a nice school. A masterpiece. Entertaining, funny, touching and moving, but also tense, raw, cruel and heartbreaking.

This is a complex, subtle, very good film of cultures in a school. There are many tough situations and Francois Begaudeau presents a full portrait of a teacher with strengths and flaws. There are a few lowly developed parts, but most parts are well developed. The students, teachers and principal are finely naturalistic and the plot well deveops the theme of racial, ethnic and class conflicts. The actor playing the principal does a good job portraying smartness and toughness for a small role. We have schools in USA that are muchly worse than this one.
