If not the best film made in recent memory about the classroom experience then at least the most realistic. I could relate so strongly to this group of kids since I was one, and you were too. The little dramas that are shown are amplified by the style; a friend of mine might call it a "talking-heads" movie, but a naturalistic film about a Parisian urban school in what would be for the US 8th grade should be done in this style. All of the acting, from non-professionals mostly, is excellent, and the main drama around one student in particular is stagerring in its power not because of what happens but because of what leads up to it, how the conflict is dealt with entirely. It's an extraordinary film.

This is a complex, subtle, very good film of cultures in a school. There are many tough situations and Francois Begaudeau presents a full portrait of a teacher with strengths and flaws. There are a few lowly developed parts, but most parts are well developed. The students, teachers and principal are finely naturalistic and the plot well deveops the theme of racial, ethnic and class conflicts. The actor playing the principal does a good job portraying smartness and toughness for a small role. We have schools in USA that are muchly worse than this one.

ok this movie is not for everyone but if you're interested in quality cinema with superb acting the you def have to watch this. loved it!
