The Black Prince follows the story of the last Sikh Maharaja — the son of the powerful ruler Ranjit Singh — who was placed on the throne at the age of five, after the death of his father. In 1849, the young prince was removed from the throne and eventually sent off to England. His attempts to return to India and reclaim his kingdom were subsequently thwarted by the British.

The Black Prince tells the untold story of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Its a historical movie and there is much to know in this movie. Its must watch for those who want to see something different than routine masala movies.

The Black Prince is a beautifully photographed film and an interesting historical tale from the murky depths of mid-19th century British colonialism, but it's a bloodless tale, bereft of passion or pathos.

Clunkily scripted and generically pretty in a Stately Home porn kind of way, the film is vaguely accurate in its sequence of events but falls completely flat on personal relationships, psychology and political undercurrents — in other words, the stuff that makes history come alive.
