The Big Short takes advantage of the old equation of Comedy=Tragedy+Time to scathingly reflect on how the housing bubble crisis occurred. Adam McKay's screenplay is excellent in providing various historical accounts with educational segments on complex economic matters that otherwise would go over the audience's heads. Not only that, but it features rich dialogue and a fast pace that keeps the audience's attention. All of this is of course is made possible by it's stellar cast, especially Steve Carrell who effectively provides the frustration that the audience can empathize with and who they can cling on to for a moral compass in a film filled with immoral characters. Overall, this film perfectly captures the short-sighted, greediness of unchecked Capitalism with a savagely witty reflection of it's most recent economic disaster in the United States.

Somehow managing to derive acerbic humor from the United States housing bubble in the early 2000s, 'The Big Short' is impressively smart, self-aware, intricate, darkly humorous, and thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end. Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, and Ryan Gosling all shine in their roles as investors who are ahead of the curve, and aware of the imminent collapse of the volatile housing market. Though the conclusion is a foregone one, 'The Big Short' is never anything less than riveting right until the credits role. Final Grade: A+
