George Stroud, a crime magazine's crusading editor, has to postpone a vacation with his wife - again - when a glamorous blonde is murdered and he is assigned by his publishing boss to find the killer. As the investigation proceeds to its conclusion, Stroud must try to disrupt his ordinarily brilliant investigative team as they increasingly build evidence that he is the killer.

Let me start off by saying this is probably my favorite movie of all time, hence the 5 star rating. Suspenseful. Thrilling. The Best. The End.

Ray Milland plays an editor who has been put in charge to look for an alleged murderer in the building that he works. There is only one problem. He is the alleged murderer and there is a witness. Of course, he is innocent but has been set up. Time is running out... This is the premise of a tension filled film noir, with the delicious irony of the hunter hunting himself. One of the first noirs that I ever saw and got me into the genre. Co-star Charles Laughton is wonderful as Milland's boss.

An excellent hitherto unknown film noir that falls short of greatness due only to the rather abrupt ending. Remade with a better ending as 'No Way starring Kevin Costner.

Very good thriller without much feeling. But that's okay. It's really a jolt. It seems that they ran out of thriller ideas in the 80's so they started ripping them off at the source... For example, this movie was ripped off by No Way Out and many films ripped off THAT movie.
