A movie that really makes me think I grew up in the wrong era. Yes it's a musical, but don't hold that against it. It is witty, intelligent, and even makes fun of the musical genre a bit. Plus I didn't know the 50s were such a sexy era...

Excellent old time musical with in particular the dancing of Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse with some of the biggest and most beloved and memorable dance scenes. Oh to have those long long legs like Cyd!

Is it better than Singin' in the Rain? I think so... Fantastic dancing, wonderful songs, and one of the best scenes with Astaire in a crowd ("Shine On My Shoes"). A must see!

I stumbled across this while channel surfing. I didn't see the beginning of it, but I did catcha lot of the dance scenes. Really cool! What struck me most was how contemporary the musci was. In this 1953 movie Fred Astaire, et. al., are dancing to some very new stuff for the time - some jazz riffs that were, if not cutting edge, at least were close. I kept thinking of Moulin Rouge from several years ago - it was wonderful, too, but completely derivative. Not sure The Band Wagon!

My first Fred Astaire's film. Loved the musical numbers, especially the dances. The subtle humor was also nice (the 'unbreakable' one for the example). Too bad the rest of the movie was fucked up because of the DVD, although it was still watchable. Second viewing is needed.
