Spectacular musical dance production stars a middle-aged Fred Astaire basically playing himself, albeit his character is much less famous than he was in real life. He attempts to make a comeback with a stage musical, and is paired up with ballerina Cyd Charisse. If watching those two dancing together does not bring you joy, perhaps nothing ever will.

Astaire and Charisse are terrific in this song and dance film that really reflects the pain in struggles that go into making a musical. Love the detective number.

A movie that really makes me think I grew up in the wrong era. Yes it's a musical, but don't hold that against it. It is witty, intelligent, and even makes fun of the musical genre a bit. Plus I didn't know the 50s were such a sexy era...
