It was something new, where Douglas epitomised the hollywood producer who will do anything to succeed. It just goes to show how much Hollywood can corrupt a person who has a gift and vision. It was a little odd that it focused on other people but always came back to Douglas. I did enjoy the end where all the people he had affected came back despite him hurting them in so many ways. He gave so much, yet took so much away. It also gave a sense of what it takes to succeed in show biz, by writing, producing, storyboarding, casting, creating a Vision and lots of dedication. I think it was effective because the participants believed in it, since much of the plot had happened to them so they identified well with it. 1001 movies to see before you die.

If you love old Hollywood, you'll love this old Hollywood flick about old Hollywood. Miss Turner, her usual good self (just not as good as she thinks she is). Kirk got a deserved Oscar nod.. just the kind of role I like him in. Great display of the ins and outs of the cut-throat behind the scenes business. No such thing as a bad Minnelli creation.

Good movie with a good cast. Good cast makes this look at the movie industry a enjoyable watch. What brought this movie down a bit was the three stories tended to drag, especially by the the time last story was told. All in all a decent movie though.

Hollywood doesn't look very good here, but that's the point. Douglas holds it all together, though I find myself admiring it more than loving it.
