Along with my two other favorite Hollywood films "Sunset Boulevard" and "Barton Fink", this film excells in telling the story of a crafty producer with a bad knack for betraying his friends. Dark at times and hard throughout, it paints a great picture of human psychology and the film business. Great score, outstanding cast with obviously Douglas being absolutely brilliant. Lana Turner is very good and so is Pidgeon, although I absolutely loved Powell and Sullivan, especially Powell as he only shows up in the last portion of the film and is outstanding. Grahame and Roland are quite good as well in their smaller roles. I imagine Micheal Douglas looked upon his father's role in this film while preparing his role as Gordon Gekko, because the similarities are very evident Overall fantastic writing and directing, it is appalling this film isn't more widely know. Four out of Four.

Excellent film about movie-making, was an inspiration to marty Scorsese. Kirk Douglas is great in it.
