Interesting take in the evolution of money.

A very good overview of the financial markets & its effect on world history from the 1700s to present. Ferguson does an excellent job of simplifying finance so that most any person can understand it. I would recommend this series to every one of my friends, including those with more advanced finance backgrounds. My only wish is that Ferguson would have covered the agrarian age and bartering system better so that people could understand why finance came about and where we might be headed to if, indeed, the world financial system collapses again. Be sure to get the full four hour series, not the two hour!

I don't like British Professor Fergueson imperialist take on economics on global market. It was selective history research from one the world's best economist in the world. I don't see the positive on how Europe made great benefits without him not mentioning the extraction of resources and colonization of Africa. Europe's wealth came from Africa. The power of financial market is determined by international gold exchange and politcal power. I'm not an economist that knows the math and graphs. It doesn't take a Harvard educated person to know that for country to have more GNP and another country to have less or is force into financial debt due to sanctions to eliminate the competition. European countries was always at war with eachother. Trading became difficult, but not with countries that were allies and colonize. I didn't like the films western view and watch it many times and even read the book. Wasn't bad, wasn't good! I would recommend watching it. It is educational and distorted.

Interesting perspective on history through the lens of finance. Lots of dialogue - he's pretty much lecturing/storytelling the whole time.
