There's a special place in my heart for this kind of film. This kind of film probably has no budget, no hand-of-god producers, no promotional clout, and yet, the filmmakers still do an excellent job in bringing the story comes to life. Sometimes, all a story needs are three-dimensional characters and well-motivated dialogue. This story keeps it very simple and very American: An old man refuses to live in a retirement home, so he escapes and returns to his farm, only to find it has been rented out by his son to a white trash family. He stubbornly lives in the 'slave quarters', annoying his neighbor. Sounds like a tragic ending about to happen. I love a story which uses a modern setting to tell age-old themes. This one is about working hard to own a piece of land, and keeping it at all costs. Very colonialistic, very American.

What a powerful performance by one of my favorite actors and a church acquaintance, Hal Holbrook. It is a tremendous tribute to his marriage to the wonderful Dixie Carter, and a memorable performance about the struggle of growing old. And it's filmed in my home state of Tennessee. Loved it.

Hal Holbrook at his best. All the supporting actors were really good. Takes place in small town Tennessee. Holbrook's character leaves his nursing home and gets back to his farm, finding people living there........and he wants them OUT.
