One of the most emotional movies to come out. Jane Alexander does a superb job as the mother trying to keep her family together while dealing with her own loss. This film doesn't tie things up in a nice happy package, but leaves you wondering how you would react if faced with the same situation.

A quiet and not too ambitious movie but one that has moments of greatness. The sense of isolation and claustrophobia are, for example, well done. It's a shame that it seemed to back away from one direction quite near the end, but even getting that close was brave.

Fine small scale story about the aftermath of a cold war nuclear exchange. Instead of going down the route of "Mad Max" with crazed biker punks or "The Day After" with scientists and heads of state, it instead focuses on a mom trying to hold her family together. The films power comes from it reality and that there is no way you can watch the film witihout imagining what you would do in this same situation. And look fast for Kevin Costner and Rebecca DeMornay in small supporting roles as a young couple
