Tentacles (1977)

Several people disappear from and at the sea. Their bodies are found gnawed to the skeleton, even the marrow is missing. The scientists have no idea which animal could do such things. Dr. Turner begins to suspect that the company which builds a tunnel beneath the bay might have poisoned the environment and caused an octopus to mutate to giant dimensions...

The first half of the movie feels kind of like Henry Fonda and John Huston decided to make a funny movie for kicks while in Italy, while the second half feels just dreadful. The very typical monster film is ridiculous, and the marine biologist's character is rather ludicrous, leading to a tiresome finale.

Ovidio G. Assonitisin ohjaama "Tentacles - lonkerot" on italialais-amerikkalaisena yhteistyona syntynyt merellinen kauhuelokuva, jossa vedenalaista tunnelia rakentava yritys rikkoo ahneuksissaan saantoja ja saa pahansisuisen jattilaismustekalan kiukustumaan. Ja sitten alkaa Ocean Beachin rantamilta kadota ihmisia, eivatka edes rannalle jatetyt lastenvaunut ole turvassa. Elokuva onnistuu ensimmaisen kolmen vartin aikana toimimaan yllattavan hyvin ollakseen B-luokan Tappajahai-jaljitelma, mutta sitten se taantuu pahemman kerran ja alkaa aiheuttaa katsojassa etupaassa myotahapeaa. Loppuratkaisu on paitsi nolo, myos tavattoman epauskottava. Leffassa vilahtelee kasittamattoman hyvia nayttelijoita - vai mita sanotte triosta John Huston, Shelley Winters ja Henry Fonda - mutta yksikaan heista ei onnistu pelastamaan uppoavaa laivaa omalla roolisuorituksellaan. Ei muille kuin roskan ystaville, jos nyt suoranaisesti heillekaan...
