Another great films from one of cinema's greatest silent directors. Murnau's Tartuffe isn't just a film inside a film, it's a moral painting and an amusing satire of hypocrisy, and it works perfectly with his expressionist style.

I love how this movie uses Tartuffe as a story within a story to warn the audience of hypocrites. The character who's saying it, breaks the fourth wall to tell us this warning as well, which was cool. Plus the expressionistic style isn't as pronounced as in some other films, but it's there. Especially in the guy who plays Tartuffe. Murnau sure made some interesting films, I recommend seeing this movie, it's good.

Nicht Murnaus bester Film, doch man sieht auch bei Herr Tartüff, dass Murnau einer der ganz großen Stummfilmregisseure war. Die Laufzeit von nur knapp 60 Minuten ist für meinen Geschmack ein wenig zu kurz geraten, eine zusätzliche Viertelstunde hätte dem Ganzen sicher gut getan. gute 3/5
