Uproariously funny send up of post-60s hippies (and their parents) that really takes the piss out of both the counterculture and the counter-counterculture. The scene where the forlorn adults try pot for the first time in order to relate to their wayward kids is high(brow), slow-burning farce at its best. Even as the airy ideals of youth get the rug ruthlessly pulled out from underneath them-just by letting them be themselves, performing songs and acting goofy-it's really the parents who turn out to be the punchline (literally, in the case of a scene with Buck Henry getting drunk and violent), their repression exposed, their desire humiliated.

Finally I tracked down this film from a Chezch Rep DVD. Milos Forman is one of my fave director's of all time and is sadly very, very underated despite making some true masterpieces. This film was his first crack at American film out of his native country and boy the guy really made a fantastic picture of the generation gap between a married couple and their daughter. Buck Henry is truly marvelous in a very subtle role and carries the film from start to finish and never did i see an actor i saw a character and it's a shame that despite he did have a fluid career he never reached the adoration that he deserves. Equally amazing is Lynn Carlin and she really is stupendous of a very clueless woman of what is changing in the world. A special mention has to go to Vincent Schiavelli who nearly steals the movie in his 5 minute role as the 'Drug Expert'. I hope one day the film gets more views and many may find it dated but go with it's charm and i promise you will not be disapointed.

Foreman's particular ability is to make the ordinary look interesting. In Taking Off he succeeds.

Come film non lo nego che sia abbastanza originale e assolutamente avanti coi tempi, stando agli anni in cui uscÃ¬, perÃ² questo film non Ã¨ riuscito a piacermi. Una trama come giÃ detto originale, ma assolutamente priva di profonditÃ , che nasce in maniera noiosa, si sviluppa in maniera simpatica ma termina con un finale inconcludente e privo di significato. Di sicuro Ã¨ un film che Ã¨ piaciuto molto ai suoi tempi, e oggi giorno puÃ² ancora piacere, ma io non son stato affatto colpito!
