Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut is a fair attempt at a difficult narrative, but at the end of the day he just doesn't pull it off. Sympathy For Delicious follows a paraplegic homeless man who dreams of being a rockstar DJ but unexpectedly receives the power of miraculous healing. It's an interesting premise and one that is ripe with opportunity to build a great movie around it, but sadly Ruffalo becomes too bogged down in various allegory and morals and messages, leading to confusion over what this movie is actually trying to say. On top of this the performances are inconsistent, from best (Juliette Lewis) to worst (Orlando Bloom) it's a mixed bag. All in all it's a well-meaning and ambitious attempt, but more than Ruffalo as director can realistically handle.

This offbeat effort proves more admirable for its ambition than anything else, as the uneasy mix of satire, allegory, grittiness and redemption never quite jells.

Sympathy For Delicious doesn't just go from bad to worse with each passing scene but dives wheelchair first into downright laughable waters during its final ten minutes.

Ruffalo's directorial debut was so so. The film reminded me of the film, The Touch with Skeet Ulrich and Christopher Walken, however, I thought that film was better. Ruffalo had a good idea for a film but didn't execute it correctly I thought Christopher Thornton was miscast in the lead role. Ruffalo should have gone with another actor like Sam Rockwell for that role. All of the other actors in this ensemble did a good job. I hope Ruffalo's next film that he directs, will be better.

An absolutely amazing dramatic emotional and enjoyable movie. Highly recommend this to watch. You will not be disappointed. A bit heavy on the religious overtones at times, BUT a great movie!
