The Harder They Come (1972)

Ivanhoe Martin arrives in Kingston, Jamaica, looking for work and, after some initial struggles, lands a recording contract as a reggae singer. He records his first song, "The Harder They Come," but after a bitter dispute with a manipulative producer named Hilton, soon finds himself resorting to petty crime in order to pay the bills. He deals marijuana, kills some abusive cops and earns local folk hero status. Meanwhile, his record is topping the charts.

The only film you ever need to see. A fantastic look at the Rudeboy culture of Kingston in the 70's, and the soundtrack can't be faulted. I watched it everyday for a week.

A really good flick, with Jimmy Cliff doing a fantastic job as the lead character. He plays a charismatic anti-hero, kind of a Clyde Barrow with no Bonnie. Cliff has a dynamic screen presence, dripping with Jamaican cool and a winning smile. His escapades are very entertaining, as he gets deeper into trouble while continuing to fight a system of corruption in the music business, the ganja trade, and the police. And of course, there's that catchy reggae soundtrack.

One this movie is about rasta pot heads that do nothing but toke and play music....+ they get large its a great inspiration to all who have tried to successed but maid it more than that....the oldschoolness of this movie makes it that much more athentic.
