The days leading up to the completion of his most famous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Georges Seurat is struggling to make meaningful art and maintaining a relationship with his lover, Dot. Amid the scorn of the artistic community, Seurat's artistic ability thrives while his love diminishes. A century later, Seurat's descendant – named George and also an artist – finds himself burnt out and in search of what artistic path to follow, but he finds the answer to his future in the past.

It says something many people find hard to take- Artists can be disconnected and aloof from their surroundings, but it's okay because they create great art. It isn't hard for me to take that, though. Outstanding work from Sondheim, Lapine, Peters and Mandy Patinkin, in the performance of his carreer.

***************** That is how good this production/film is. One of the most visually, musically and vocally brillant musicals. Music that melts you into a puddle. You cannot claim music theatre greatness until you have seen, heard, and know this musical. The greatest soundheim have ever written.

I like Sweeney Todd better, but very interesting. Patinkin is great, and I liked Bernadette Peters a lot. Loved "Sunday in the Park with George," "Finishing the Hat," and for some reason, "Everybody Loves Louis." And the opening number of Act II ("It's Hot Up Here"). Didn't like the beginning of Act II ("chromolume?"), but it got better. Overall, the score is great. Thought the American characters were pretty funny. The passion that went into every aspect of the show is obvious, and I like that.

The best musical ever written. Sondheim's music sweeps the floor out from under you one minute, and drenches your face in tears the next. A timeless story, and a breathtaking theatrical adventure. Genius.
