I think this is an extremely underrated film...

Simple coming of age drama with great scores by Michel Legrand and beautiful scene. It has a very similar plot with Giuseppe Tornatore's Malena, which is one of my fave movies ever. I enjoyed this movie very much.

One of the most erotic sequences ever, more for the implied sexuality than what is shown. I'm talking of course about the scene where the boys wrestle in the sand. The condom-shopping scene was a little bit overdone, but overall this is a pretty picture, if you don't mind the slower pace.

Another coming-of-age tale about three boys and their quest to become men, which invariably revolves around having sex and puerile behaviour but then changes tack completely by giving us lush scenery. If the director had remained with one idea then perhaps the end product wouldn't seem so varied.

A CLASSIC; narrated by Bill Bixby; my memories of SUMMER OF '42 remind me of a bunch of NORMAN ROCKWELL PAINTINGS. Starring Jennifer O'Neil who would later appear in LUCIO FULCI'S Seven Notes in Black (aka THE PSYCHIC) and David Cronenberg's SCANNERS . . . Summer of '42 is the movie that Wendy and Danny Torrence were watching in Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING. I just remember it being a very good film: The lady's husband dies overseas and Hermie Comes of Age . . .I guess Coming of age means turning into an adult where you selflessly comfort another person . . . something like that at least. The world is very different now . . . now we get movies about some kid losing his virginity and other kids videotaping the experience and uploading it to Youtube . . . so what: is the the world become insensitive or something? I saw this on PRISM Cable-TV probably before SCANNERS was released in theaters.
