Spider Baby (1967)

In a dilapidated rural mansion, the last generation of the degenerate, inbred Merrye family lives with the inherited curse of a disease that causes them to mentally regress from the age of 10 or so on as they physically develop. The family chauffeur looks out for them and covers up their indiscretions. Trouble comes when greedy distant relatives and their lawyer arrive to dispossess the family of its home.

Jack Hill does the 'crazy family' before Hooper. And definitely before Zombie...ugh

I liked this one quite a bit, because despite the darker/tragic content which falls in the latter portion of the film, it's able to remain quite funny at times (that dinner scene had a pleasant flow of awkwardness) with a lot of heart. I also liked the gothic atmosphere as that added to the great blend of emotions this film delivered. Finally, I also thought the acting was really good. I didn't have any issues with a particular actor.

Jack Hill's campy and creepy look at a family of inbred cannibals and murderers. A poignant performance by Lon Chaney along with a nice sense of humor that careens from gonzo to deadpan and one-of-a-kind theme song sung by Chaney make for a twisted cult classic.

Une sorte de Famille Adams complÃ¨tement barrÃ©. On reconnait l'esprit Pulp et pervers du rÃ©al de Foxy Brown. Les acteurs (en particulier Sid "Cap.Spaulding"Haig) sont tous dÃ©ments. Un vrai rÃ©gal!
