It's sad that this movie is seen as so controversial that Disney won't even acknowledge it's existence anymore. Yes, it paints a rosy picture of life on the plantation, but no more so than movies like Jezebel. The wisdom of Uncle Remus and his tales of Brer Rabbit far outweigh any detriment the live action portions may possibly portray. Finally, I watched this movie with my kids, as I think parents really should do with any movie, and we were able to talk about the messages and issues brought up by the movie. I loved the stories and songs as a kid and I want my children to be able to as well.

Most likely saw this when I was quite young.

An old slave enchants a boy with stories that teach about life. Under all the controversy, this was a bold film about the power of fiction. Just like the generations before us, this Disney classic may one day be gone forever. Because of this I cherish it all the more.

Its a great movie, I just don't understand why it would be banned in North America. Everyone loves learning life lessons along with Brer Rabbit while he evades Brer Bear and Brer Fox.

One of my all time favorite Disney films.... If you actually watch this film it is not racist at all. Seriously just go watch this film. It was groundbreaking at the time, teaches good morals and is amusing.
