Oppenheim doesn’t waste much space on the upside. He aims straight for the undergrowth, and treats the Villages as one big Carl Hiaasen novel waiting to happen.

Some Kind Of Heaven contrasts the dissatisfaction of its subjects with the sunniness of their surroundings, the better to stress the wide gap separating how they feel and how they’re expected to feel in a community one talking head refers to, un-ironically, as “nirvana.”

A monument of a documentary. Aside from its intoxicating style and riveting characters, the pacing of the documentary plays like a catchy tune by presenting and then pulling the emotional hooks keeping you wanting more all the way up to the credits. I cannot recommend it enough.

Incredible doc. excellent cinematography and editing. no narration or presence of the filmmakers, just the people the film follows. these people are fascinating ! incredibly human and relatable in so many different ways. the is a general tone of sadness and humor but everything is thought provoking and can be viewed in multiple ways. Maybe the best documentary film i've seen since Honeyland.

All this seriousness about love, loss and the human needs that start up early and continue until the end aren’t without a sense of fun. Some Kind of Heaven’s glib punchlines (like its title) and aesthetic choices (like a voyeuristic camera and thrillery score accompanying Dennis’ more slimy schemes) work best when they’re paired with some nicely dry moments of undermining honesty.
