Oppenheim doesn’t waste much space on the upside. He aims straight for the undergrowth, and treats the Villages as one big Carl Hiaasen novel waiting to happen.

Incredible doc. excellent cinematography and editing. no narration or presence of the filmmakers, just the people the film follows. these people are fascinating ! incredibly human and relatable in so many different ways. the is a general tone of sadness and humor but everything is thought provoking and can be viewed in multiple ways. Maybe the best documentary film i've seen since Honeyland.

Some Kind of Heaven gently prods at the incompatibility of two cherished American narcotics: freedom and comfort. Though the latter can be purchased, it comes at the cost of one’s individuality.

Life in The Villages intersects with the suburbia of Blue Velvet and, in common with that dark dramatic underbelly, there’s a compelling soap opera bubbling under the sterile surface.

Oppenheim resists easy misanthropy, showing unexpected empathy for people who have cocooned themselves from the outside world, only to confront its headaches anyway.
