Snowtime! (2015)

To amuse themselves during the winter school break, the kids in a small village decide to have a massive snowball fight. Luke and Sophie, both 11 years old, become the leaders of the opposing sides. Sophie and her cohort defend an elaborate snow fort against the assault of Luke's horde. Whichever side occupies the fort at the end of the winter break, wins. But what starts out as pure youthful fun and enthusiasm deteriorates into a more serious conflict. Joy is restored when all the children decide to attack the fort rather than each other and happily destroy every last bit of the snow fort.

Snowtime! wants to be much more than a Saturday morning animated distraction.

Dana Barbuto 21 Feb 2016

The charming script, credited to four writers, turns on a dime when tragedy befalls one of the characters.

Sheri Linden 17 Feb 2016

Though the story’s midsection, with its shifting alliances and reversals, feels distended, the movie offers well-defined characters and an inventive sense of earthbound fun, as well as poignant moments.

SPOILER ALERT: The dog dies?! What?! HOLY CRAP! Before that, this was a charmingly cute, low-budget kid's film with nice joke writing, well-drawn characters, and inventive set designs. I could overlook the baser bathroom humor and the unfocused protagonist distinction...but A DOG DYING IN A FUN-LOVING KIDS COMEDY?! Uh-uh.

Our kids and I enjoyed this movie! Yes, the dog dies, but there's only so much we can do to keep our children in a bubble. The truth and reality is that death is part of our lives. Don't focus on the dog's death, rather pay close attention to the message and lesson that comes from it!! Very powerful!
