Peter Stormare is so believable for this character, and this film is bleeding with style and uniqueness.

The force in Stormare's performance is enough to suggest we've witnessed only a fraction of the character's anguish.

I don't know what they were going for here. As a crime story, it's subpar. As a character study, it's too distant. It seems to want to say something about small town life an religion, but neither of these are particularly developed. And the soundtrack is clearly supposed to be something important too, but it's mainly just overstated and distracting - plus the songs were so much louder than the dialogue I had to constantly be ready to adjust the volume accordingly.

I appreciate very much the tone and atmosphere it was going for and the sense of style in the music and the images coupled with them. It is an interesting film, but ultimately it is short and simple and does not manage to attain the "big" or intense feeling it seemed to be going for.
