This is my favorite French New Wave film, and it shows why Truffaut is my favorite New Wave director. Like Truffaut and Steven Spielberg, I also love children, but refuse to talk down to them.

A lovely work in a minor key, but no minor achievement. Immerses you in these people's lives and at the end, you care about their well-being.

I love the scene where the little girl is stuck at home w/o dinner an uses a megaphone to announce to her neighbors "J'ai faim, j'ai faim." I actually quoted that scene in my SAT essay question. hah I love Truffaut's work!

Truffaut is so precise with his observations and unintrusive with the camera that we feel as if we are seeing a documentary instead of contrived movie scenarios.
