True-crime writer Ellison Oswalt is in a slump; he hasn't had a best seller in more than 10 years and is becoming increasingly desperate for a hit. So, when he discovers the existence of a snuff film showing the deaths of a family, he vows to solve the mystery. He moves his own family into the victims' home and gets to work. However, when old film footage and other clues hint at the presence of a supernatural force, Ellison learns that living in the house may be fatal.

I really like this movie, i recommend this to all people who like creepy, mysterious movies. It was pretty there were scenes which creeped me out and that's what i love about Horror-movies.

Creepy, scary and disturbing. Loved this movie and I think it had a strong plot, which isn't usual for most horror movies. Just had the right amount of everything and I never was bored in any part of it. Practically everything that happened tied in with the entire story. Highly recommend it. One of the best horror films I have watched in a long time.

Reviews seem to be harsh! This is a fun twisty haunted movie that does not do a lot of blood guts and gore which I appreciate. Surprise was seeing Vincent D'Onofrio in it - and just like his flicks...Hawke does well and if you let the movie take you on a ride it will....or you can search for the logic in everything and feel incomplete...I liked it!

This was the second scariest film I've ever seen (the first being the American version of "The Ring", the gold standard for horror films). Many horror films about the supernatural start out well, but devolve into absurd wrap-ups (e.g. "Insidious", "Mama"). By contrast, "Sinister" has a tight story and excellent editing. Really well-done. The dark, shut-in atmosphere -- and Ethan Hawke's rather unlikeable character -- didn't lessen the suspense, which gripped me throughout the film. An excellent, super-scary ending. Recommended for fans of scary, supernatural horror.
