Silk Stockings (1957)

After three bumbling Soviet agents fail in their mission to retrieve a straying Soviet composer from Paris, the beautiful, ultra-serious Ninotchka is sent to complete their mission and to retrieve them. She starts out condemning the decadent West, but gradually falls under its spell—with the help of an American movie producer. A remake of Ninotchka (1939).

Musical version of Ninchotka. Some bright moments, but otherwise forgettable.

One of Fred Astaire's best films. While it might be his work with Ginger Rogers that has entered the pantheon of film, It's his later pairings that I actually find more enjoyable, and this particular one is the best. Cyd Charisse is not only a fine dancer, but a great actress and comedienne. This is a great script and a great production that's out loud funny and greatly entertaining.

No Ninotchka. Astaire is too old for the role and the chemistry between him and Charisse isn't as good or believable as that between Garbo and Douglas. Charisse's dancing is divine, but the films isn't the best showcase of either dancer's talents.
