Aside from Nolan, performances lean toward the uneven, while unanswered questions and frayed threads of plot nag.

Different, I'll give 'em that.. just not that interesting. I love a good slow burn, when it's earned, but Silent Retreat barely does with a lackluster surprise or two. SPOILERS! A creature AND a psycho? You don't get to have your cake and eat it too. I won't even get into how underwhelming the creature is, once it's revealed. Long story short, leave it on the queue... but in a very distant spot.

The more answers that tumble out, the more banal it all seems, yet the film's strong start carries it far, and its feminist message -- women deserve to be heard -- is a powerful one.

Interesting! Camp to transform women into submissive and quiet husband listening wives. And an interest twist.
