I'm very disappointed with this film. I thought it. Not the same class of - Ladri di biciclette -. Anyway, all the De Sica characters have a crescendo of jinx. In this case, for a small swindle two kids are convicted. And the swindle was not their fault. The prison change them for the worst, and one of them dies during an escape, which is not as great as McQueen's. A very low budget film. All the action scenes are in the dark. So, one can hear just the sound of voices.

Too bad his best film isn't available on Region 1. This is his best film (although, I haven't seen Miracle in Milan) great direction and an excellent, simple story.

A true masterpiece. A beautiful story about the friendship between two boys and the betrayals that lead to tragic and devastating consequences. One of the most truly moving films I have ever seen.

Can't believe I'd never seen this before, but there it is. Not quite as good as Bicycle Thieves or Umberto D, but great nonetheless.

Vittorio de Sica's simple masterpiece (in my opine), about two boys and a horse, and not much else--but what a world of joy and heartbreak and tragedy those three elements include!
