Shatter (1974)

Shatter, an international contract killer, has been assigned to assassinate the President of a small African country and collect his fee from a bank in the Far East. On arrival in Hong Kong his life is threatened and when the bank denies all knowledge of payment arrangements, he realises he has been drawn into a dangerous game where there are no rules. Amongst the players are the Mafia and several foreign intelligence services and the stakes being played for are deadly.

This is a Hammer Production, and I am told Hammer teamed up with the Shaw brothers which combined to make a pretty good film considering the Film is from 1974 when International Spy's were all over the screen thanks to Dr. No and Gold finger the James Bond Films, This is not about a secret agent, but has the cool things a secret agent would have. Stuart Wittman is a modern day (1974 Modern Day) killer and has been hired to wipe out a African president. He enters his hotel room with a Camera that shoots bullets, kills the president and one of his aids. Then flees to Hong Kong to collect his money, but man who hired him refuses to pay, so begins the killing, and kung fu scenes that help a low in action and drama. Peter Cushing makes a surprise appearance as the Police Commissioner of Hong Kong, this was Cushing?s last movie for Hammer. Its worth 3 stars, a good rental or pawn shop buy.

A run of the mill spy flick. Whitman is the balls as Shatter but he has very little to play with. Cushing offers up a real touch of class in his brief role but overall it is really average.

A professional is double-crossed while collecting on a hit taken out on an African leader. Early promise dissipates rather quickly. If the distinguished Stuart Whitman were British, he would have been a lock for James Bond. Take a seat Mr Connery.

A hitman goes unpaid for a hit on an East African leader and is told he is no longer wanted. In certain types of work, it always is better to get some funds paid up front for services. This spy film never quite hits the mark but is watchable.
