Chinese steampunk martial arts blockbuster about the early years of Tai chi master Yang Luchan, the man who founded in the 19th century what has now become the most popular Tai Chi style in the world. Action packed sequel to Tai Chi Zero. Interesting mix of martial arts and steampunk filmmaking. Don't miss this one.

Shot back to back with Tai Chi Zero, Lu Chan finally gets to learn Chen style kung fu after marrying Yu Niang. The plot is very similar to the first movie, with the same villain. The film's only highlight is the step back from relying on pop culture references and developing characters. The best part was definitely yhe final battle between Lu Chan and the Prince's butler, played by Yuen Biao. Other than that, its a routine sequel that leaves off for potential future installments.

Tai Chi Hero didn't quite live up to expectations on many fronts, and became somewhat of a pale shadow that the first film had set up......sure the elements are there in Yang Lu Chan's ascension to become a martial arts great, having the fortune to understudy both his wife and father-in-law's renowned kung fu, learning both the physical aspects as well as the philosophy behind the techniques, but it seemed that Stephen Fung had probably gone all out with the first installment, that the second one ran out of steam and suffered from a total burn out. ......

Definitely a decline from its Part 1. But the legacy still makes it satisfying nonetheless.
