Chinese steampunk martial arts blockbuster about the early years of Tai chi master Yang Luchan, the man who founded in the 19th century what has now become the most popular Tai Chi style in the world. This is martial arts flick for the new generation, with influences and mash-ups from animes, comic books and video games. Plot and characters elements are not original, and I actually missed nothing much without having seen the first movie. Notable performance from Tony Leung, who being the more senior cast member, brings some acting credibility to film, while Angelababy lends her pretty looks and beady eyes. The result is an entertaining stylised martial arts movie that is just to be enjoyed as it is without any pretension.

Definitely a decline from its Part 1. But the legacy still makes it satisfying nonetheless.

I expected more of the cartoonish wild feel, but got abit more of a mixed serious nature. Still better then most.

Like its predecessor, Tai Chi Hero is continually hampered by its thin characters and badly convoluted narrative but at least this time there are more opportunities to savour the many oddball pleasures.

It's got more of a heart this time and I was able to warm to the characters in a way that I couldn't with the first film.
