What a wonderfully heartbreaking story. The most any artist can hope for is that his/her work will inspire or speak to someone, the wild fantasy is that it will inspire a lot of people. Rodriguez had the wonderful experience of knowing that his work spoke to an entire nation and showed them another way to be in the world.

Rodriguez' lyrics keep playing in my head... saw the film maybe a month ago, bought the soundtrack... and am feeling (oh so) groovy... want to promote this to y'all... wonderful story and song.. not to mention peeps, and of course Rodriguez himself.

Sin palabras me quedo para describir la brutal historia de un genio incomprendido e injustamente olvidado de la musica como es el gran Sixto Rodriguez. Otro de esos musicos que la industria le da de lado y permite que se evapore el recuerdo de un musico sin igual, un letrista unico que rivalizaba sin problemas con el mismisimo Dylan. Y lo mejor de este genial documental, justisimo ganador del ultimo oscar , no es solo la busqueda del musico, sino el descubrimiento de estatus de icono musical que conisguio en la otra punta del mundo, nada menos que en sudafrica, donde fue censurado de una manera un tanto peculiar. La sencillez de Rodriguez, el sentimiento que pone en todas sus notas logra que te enamores de sus canciones y de la sencillez de su forma de ser. Y esa cancion, Sugar man, absolutamente hipnotica...

One of the most powerful documentaries I've seen this year. The storyline has a major surprise in the middle and the cinematography is majestic. Loved the characters and the passion - forgot I was watching non-fiction.

No es la hagiografía de un músico ególatra que busca en los excesos un camino recurrente para llegar al Olimpo de los dioses con una guitarra; más bien se trata del retrato de un humano con el valor suficiente para aceptar su destino y seguir a pesar de los fracasos o la incomprensión del mundo, sin vacuas nostalgias que no dejan afrontar el presente. Sixto Rodríguez es un músico norteamericano de origen mexicano, quien solo grabó dos discos, pero su talento no lo hizo rico. Tan solo ganó la fama en la Sudáfrica del Apartheid, cuyas letras sirvieron como la banda sonora de una generación que se rebeló ante un terrible establecimiento. Un genio que necesitó -al igual que Juan Rulfo- de dos obras maestras para demostrar todo su talento, sin apelar a las efímeras estrellas del pop o al escándalo con final predecible para ganar la compasión del público. Rodríguez no busca culpables ni explicaciones para el esquivo éxito. Magnífico relato, con toques dramáticos, humor y una excelente banda sonora.
