My favourite Hindi movie! what makes this movie brilliant is its simple depiction of the web of circumstances in the world - set in mumbai it drags the viewer into the circumstances of the protagonist, who even as a honest, simple man ends up as an outlaw whilst safeguarding his own self-respect. This movie - is what is 'MUMBAI'.

Saw a rerun of this today, and whoa did it remind me of its class. Superb superb intense acting from Bajpai and Shukla and others, really great cinematography, and a tight gripping story line makes this the perfect package, but RGV transcends from good to great with his unbelievably realistic look and his clashing motifs of suffering and love. One of the best movies to ever come out of India.

satya traces the story of an individual who comes to mumbai, looking for a job. how he gets involved with the underworld forms the crux of the movie. ram gopal varma proves yet again that he can handle any genre with ease. manoj bajpai gives a stellar performance, portraying the character "bhikku mathre".

For the first time, the Indian audience saw a Hindi film which made them think about the issues which create an underworld don. Ram Gopal Varma established a world where gangsters were living a more miserable life than the people they ruled.
