Samba (2014)

Samba migrated to France 10 years ago from Senegal, and has since been plugging away at various lowly jobs. Alice is a senior executive who has recently undergone a burnout. Both struggle to get out of their dead-end lives. Samba's willing to do whatever it takes to get working papers, while Alice tries to get her life back on track until fate draws them together.

Most elements of Samba sound mockable, and are. Yet it does have oodles of charm, plus a cast of characters that feels like an impromptu family circle.

It's co-directed by Nakache and Toledano, but it's not a patch on their last movie, The Intouchables.

Based on a novel by Delphine Coulin, this is an affectionate and touching look at the absurdities of life as an illegal, and at its heart are two charming performances.

This movie is under rate. It is a beautiful film, with great acting and script. A wonderful love story, which also contains social issues, and intelligently done. Leaves you feeling deeply moved.
