This is not quite a romantic movie, rather I would file it under 'devotion' films ... as the characters are not petty with their love, but know the strength of connection. The physical, lyrical aspects of their relationship hold the film together. The broad phrasing feels a little too perfect--but of course it is, it was adapted from a play, where the words needed to resound in every moment with power louder than the actors' voice. In the movie, the words become too heavy. Luckily enough, Malee Matlin and William Hurt are there to ease you into ther romance with grace and force. Also: I have a sudden urge to learn more than just the alphabet in sign language.

I'm sounding crass on purpose: some chick gets raped in the basement and they write a Broadway play about it . . . the movie is soon to follow. it must be dated by now, but I enjoyed it.

As atuações de William Hurt e Marlee Matlin são simplesmente inesquecíveis.

Marlee Matlin, taught me about the gift of hearing. So much in today's world relies on such things, if we could tune things out, would apathy be understood. Einstien used so and so of his brain. Perhaps if we went deaf, went blind, then we could be more human. The trick is, you still have your sight, your ears, yet we are blind, we are deaf.....

Moving and unique. The two central performances are brilliant, and the difficulties in communication are respectfully and intelligently questioned and explored. Very good script work and direction also to distance the film from it's theatre origins as this never feels staged.
