A masterpiece that looks deeply into how people use each other, how sexuality can be a mirror we use to simply stare at ourselves. A dark, troubled, revealing performance by Marlon Brando, who defines what it is to be fearless as an actor. This is a jazzy, loose, exhilarating look at the difference between youth and age, experience and innocence, optimism and grim resignation. Depressing? Not if you have half a brain (and genitals).

Absolutely fascinating. Bertolucci's most personal film about relationships, sex, humans, emotions... and a lot of other things that make us humans. Amazing acting by both Brando and Schneider who give some of the most amazing, emotionally packed, scenes in film history!!

Brando is incredible in this film. The film itself is just about the most melancholy film I've ever seen and I love it because of that.
