Graphic and uncompromising Bertolucci's masterpiece, not for the faint of heart or easily offended. Marvelous acting and direction make of this an exquisite piece of art to enjoy several times. Lust, passion, intoxicating existentialism and experimental filmmaking is today's stong dish. 99/100

They said this movie was so explicit it was banned from a variety of places, too risque for 1973. Hmmm, just out of the 60s and it was too risque, I'm thinking - sweet! But in actuality I don't think it was so much about the sex as the nature of power and sexuality, and search for meaning in another human. Should be required viewing for anyone considering entering a midlife crisis.

This is a really sexy movie in which marlon brando, an expatriate, randomly starts having sex with this french girl in this gross apartment. It's more complicated than that but it's good.

When you first see an NC-17 rating on a movie, you think oh my... crude and raunchy. But at the time of it's release, it's understandable. However, regardless of the content, you develop an attachment to this movie and it's characters. It just makes you shed your skin and find yourself, in a way. It's hard to explain. But I enjoy it, and believe I have just found another favorite.
