It’s such a lovely set-up, you wish the filmmakers had attempted to do a little more with it.

It’s a shame that the plot gets so carried away with the supernatural power struggle, since the mile-a-minute movie is far more engaging when focused on Ruby — who makes an appealing addition to the DreamWorks Animation family — and the sitcom-ready aspect of kraken-human relations.

I'm gonna be completely honest, this is basically dreamwork's version of Turning red, but without all the drama around turning red cause they only started advertising this film 3 months before it came out. It's not a bad film but considering that this is coming off of the heels of one of Dreamwork's best films and coming out close to Across the Spiderverse, plus the terrible marketing that basically spoils the plot, yeah this film was set up to fail, which honestly sucks.
