Insightful and thoughtful take on modern soldiery, yet failed to keep my full attention for the duration of the film. Overall an ok film, no more no less.

Very good film. Mark Womack turns in a stunning performance, and John Bishop is very good too, although he's only in it intermittently. Ken loach does his usual gritty left wing dissection of life and the human condition, and there's absolutely nothing wrong in that at all. It's not always easy viewing, though. A water boarding sequence in particular is visually and emotionally intense and tough going. However, Loach invests enough flesh on the bones of his characters to justify it's existence in the film and that's the best thing about this and most of his other works. At the heart of them all, you care for and can sympathise with the characters, the predicaments that they find themselves in, and the extremes to which they're driven in order to achieve resolution.

There are contracted soldiers in Iraq, hired by private companies. Sometimes they get missions similar to that of regular armed forces but aren't bound by regular armed forces rules. Ken Loach is well known for furiously attacking social injustice in UK. Here he deals with British security business in Iraq. A taxi cab with two children is attacked and everyone inside it dies. Then the cover-up procedure starts, but this contracted soldier starts to find out the truth. It's not a typical Ken Loach movie, it's more of a typical thriller, but Loach's agenda is clear. These soldiers kill and get killed not for patriotic or other reasons. It all happens because somebody wants to make money on the war. A film filled with rage, which in the end maybe turns a little too much into a revenge drama. But there are lots of uncomfortable questions and answers here. We're getting less and less used to that.

Corruption in war theaters and warmongering are ever present. This is the British version. Suspenseful thriller following a former soldier-cum-mercenary trying to find out what or who was responsible for his mate's death in the streets of Baghdad. Consistent ending for somebody who's only marketable skill is to kill. Not for the faint-hearted. Includes some gruesome news footage.

Anti-war drama from Ken Loach about private military contractor Fergus (Mark Womack) whose best friend and fellow merc Frankie (played interestingly enough by comedian John Bishop) is killed in action in Iraq. Suspecting Frankie was killed by his own as part of a cover-up, Fergus begins an intense investigation and soon begins to lose himself. It's an engaging drama with strong performances that fearlessly addresses some of the more sensitive realities of the war in Iraq but at the same time is incredibly bleak and joyless - appropriate, sure, but the lack of levity or even small speck of hope doesn't make it an easy film to sit through. Also, the relentless swearing, as realistic as it is, does grow tiresome after a while.
