Robot Jox (1990)

50 years after a nuclear war, the two superpowers handle territorial disputes in a different way. Each fields a giant robot to fight one-on-one battles in official matches, each piloted by a man inside, known as robot jockeys or jox. The contest for possession of Alaska will be fought by two of the best. The conscientious Achilles fights for the Americans. Opposing him is a Russian, Alexander.

This movie is older, and not so appealing but I just can't seem to forget it.

It's hilarious in that we don't care at all that we're ridiculous sort of way. I mean a robot kills another robot with it's robot crotch chainsaw and if that doesn't make you want to see this just remember it's also directed by semi-respectable theatre nut Stuart Gordon. So it has it's own sort of weird pedigree and most importantly JEFFREY COMBS!!!

Probably the dumbest idea I ever heard for a movie yet. It's bad enough to be a Sci-Fi Channel original movie. Why fight w/ giant robots to solve indifferences instead of sitting down and negotiating?

this movie is awesome! when i was a kid i really remember liking this one but had trouble finding it again till last fall. giant robots operated by the states best warriors in an obvious parallel to the cold war conflict, that was wrapping up around the time this movie was made. the animated robot stuff was great and some of the best of the late 80's era (even though this is a 1990 film). the fighting is cool, shooting things, crashing around and, at one point, jumping from planet to planet. one of the best of all robot movies i have seen, it would've been nice if the sequel was more like this. watch this movie if you like robots, embrace 80's special effects and want to see a decent flick.

Classic about people fighting in giant robots in an arena. Its old but its a cool movie.
