a simple but touching film. Did not need voiceover, excessive phonecalls, or borderline pedophilic images to obtain however. Lack of words becomes an art of articulation.

Beautiful movie. If you've ever lived or worked in a situation where you were a total cultural novice or where you needed a translator, this will resonate with you. You want to get something done but you have absolutely no control.

Having been to China only a couple of times, and always travelled within the major cities, this film makes me want to visit the 'real' China, that being the hundreds and thousands of villages which represent China's long history and culture. This particular film was impressive in every sense of film making.

My friend bought this one for me as a christmas present, and i watched it like couple of months ago. It was good, touching, it was about very touching topics. And i was crying so much during it. It is about a father's love for his dying son, and i t was very touching for me 'cause i've had very serious issues with my own father too. But only today did i realize, that the director was my favourite - Zhang Yimou. He's truly my hero. He's a genious. The start of this movie was a bit boring, but then..
